Vered da Gamba

Vered Forbes is a young performer who has been sharing her passions for Jewish music and early music on the viol -, also known as the viola da gamba - and as a singer from an early age. While still studying, she performs in house concerts in Europe and Israel.

deepening knowledge

Born in the Israeli seaside town of Herzliyya, Vered Forbes grew up in a musical environment. From an early age, she absorbed Jewish music in the home, where she learned zemirot, the traditional Sabbath table songs. Studies at the Herzliyya Municipal Conservatory - cello with Galina Aharonovich, composition with Iliya Heifets, and voice with Amalia Ishak - gave her the solid grounding needed that enables Vered to translate her love of music into something an audience can enjoy.

Vered graduated with honors in 2004 from both the Aleh High school of Science and Music and the Herzliyya Municipal Conservatory. Following her graduation, Vered turned to the viol, studying with Dr. Myrna Herzog and continuing her voice study with Amalia Ishak. Already studying with Israel's leading viol player and teacher, Vered traveled to England in August 2005 to study with Allison Crum and the Rose Consort at the Dartington International Summer School.

Today, Ms. Forbes is a student of Philippe Pierlot (viol) and Reinhilde Bovend'aerde (Baroque singing) at the Brussels Conservatory (Royal Belgian Conservatory), where she is pursuing a degree in Historical Performance.

delighting audiences

Vered has been performing since secondary school.

Arab-Jewish Youth Orchestra

In the years 2001-2004, Ms. Forbes was principal cellist of the Jewish-Arab Youth Orchestra. In the orchestra, she performed classics of both Western and Arab music, together with especially composed works.

With the Herzliyya Chamber Orchestra

In 2004, Vered performed at a special concert of the Herzliya Chamber Orchestra, where her "Variations on a Theme by Orlando Gibbons" was also performed.

Since 2006, Vered Forbes has been performing in house concerts and other intimate venues. At these concerts, the varied program spans Renaissance music, Baroque music, Jewish, folk and ethnic music. Singing and playing the viol , Vered Forbes' repertoire includes pieces by established masters, little known gems and her own arangements.

Enjoying a house concert

Vered Forbes is developing a unique blend of classical and Jewish music. She sees broader audiences sharing her delight in music from the past, whether from Renaissance Europe, the Shtetl, or other communities around the globe.
